If you are charged with theft under $50 you can go and talk to the judge to see if you can get the $600 fine lowered a few hundred bucks. Has anyone here actually had this happen (without having to do some kind of community service)??

Trying to get off easy huh!? Bet you did not even do it!? If you have a lawyer, it his job to take care of those thing, if you try to do it yourself, the persecutor )I know) will tear you a new as@hole. You need to do community service, try it you may find yourself, maybe even meet a victim of your thieving ways.
